We are a growing Unitarian Universalist congregation serving southern Rhode Island and vicinity. Since 1991, when a small group first began meeting to plan a new congregation, we have grown into a thriving congregation of adults and children meeting weekly for worship, learning and fellowship. Our congregation presently consists of 105 members and approximately 40 friends. As a dynamic group, we engage in a wide variety of programs, from small group ministering to reading groups to mens' groups and womens' retreats. Worship services are held on Sunday mornings year round. Religious Education (RE) is offered From September through June.
Music is an important part of our worship services. Our music director continues to expand our music program while drawing upon the diverse musical talents of our members. This includes a growing choir that has become a regular part of our services.
Our commitment to our youngest members is demonstrated through our annual child dedication service, a well coordinated RE program, regular intergenerational worship, and Coming of Age programs, and regular involvement of our children in worship
Adult education consists of various curricula and discussions groups designed to provide adults with opportunities to think and work through issues of central importance to our spiritual lives. Recent offerings have included ''Building Your Own Theology'', ''Rise Up and Call Her Name'', and Bible Study. We have a very active Social Action Committee and all Congregation members are afforded many opportunities to participate in efforts to improve the social welfare of our communities.
In September, 2004, the congregation called it's first "settled minister". Reverend Betty Kornitzer, now a resident of Narragansett, is a graduate of Andover-Newton Theological School and came to us from Massachusetts. Ministry is a second career for Betty; she was an Attorney for twenty-five years, specializing in civil rights litigation and divorce mediation. Betty is becoming a recognized liberal voice in the south county community.
The Joyful Giving campaign is a combination of our annual canvass, which raises funds for programs and operations, and a capital campaign to raise funds for purchasing a building to be a home of our own. Please click here to view our new video "Joyful Giving", that shows who we are, what we do, and where we would like to be.
