| The philosophy of Religious Education for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County is to foster the self-worth of each individual in an inclusive environment. Our respect for the interdependent web of all existence is central to building beliefs and nurturing open mindedness. With a strong foundation, we feel that beliefs help to support actions that benefit others within our greater community. Through modeling socially responsible behavior we hope to pass on the philosophy of our liberal religious heritage. |
"Kind words can be short and sweet, but their echoes are truly endless."
-Mother Teresa
Greetings from UUCSC Religious Education:
Our Sunday school students are being exposed to many concepts of peace in our world and in our individual lives. Tricia Armstrong continues to lead along with many wonderful volunteer teachers. The curriculum contains many creative and interesting games, songs, stories, art projects and meditations about peace and being a peacemaker.
The Neighboring Faiths class is finishing their studies of Buddhism and will be moving into Earth-based spirituality.
Senior Youth group will enjoy a retreat from May 2-4th at a ski resort in New Hampshire!
Spiritual Parenting continues and the schedule for April and May is as follows:
April 27, May 2 and future dates to be discussed in the group.
OWL Presentation: The Director of Religious Education and 3 OWL facilitators from The Newport Channing Memorial Church have graciously agreed to present the basics and mechanics of the curriculum "OWL: Our Whole Lives; A sexuality education curriculum". It is a UUA series designed for 5 age groups. The Religious Education committee and I hope to educate our congregation about this valuable aspect of Religious Education through this presentation. There will also be a time for questions and answers.
It is our hope to offer OWL to the members of the Senior High Youth Group (grades 9-12) in the near future.
The presentation will take place on Monday evening, May 19th at our Legion Hall. The time will be announced soon.
