July 11: Inviting Transformation into our Lives - Lisa Tener
We often want to create change in our lives but are not sure how. We’ll explore how to invite change and experience life in new and dynamic ways.
Please note: The service of July 18 begins at 11:00 am.
July 18: Listening as a Form of Love - Marie Younkin Waldman
How often do you listen to others? REALLY listen without interruption? Marie will draw from her own experience as someone who couldn’t listen most of her life and expand on the concept of the importance of listening during communication on so many levels for better personal relationships, community friendships and peace among nations.
Our summertime picnic will take place immediately after the service. Please bring a dish to share.
July 25: Empathy: its Roots and Fruits - Jaime Dice
Empathy is unique to humans. It allows us to connect with one another’s feelings and thoughts. In this sermon, a developmental psychologist will discuss how empathy develops and why it sometimes does not develop. We will fill our peace-waging toolbox with ideas about how to promote empathy and how to use its power in peace-making.
August 1: CU2C2 - Linda Hull
Planning next summer’s vacation? Did you know there are many UU Camps and Conferences (CU2C2) across the country? Linda will talk about some of these, especially her visits to Star Island and Ferry Beach, both in New England. If you have traveled to other CU2C2s and would like to share a few words, please contact Linda.
August 8: Words and Music: the Environment in Poetry and Hymns - Steve Harrison and Helene Gersuny
The Gulf disaster has caused us to think about the environment, its threats and our ways to preserve it, even more strongly. All are invited to let Steve know (before 8/5, please) what poem on this topic you want to read and/or Helene which selection from either of our hymnals you want to hear. Let us share in the repertoire of words and music that deal with our Seventh Principle in this informal service.
August 15: Pain and Shame - Henry O’Reilly
Let us consider our hurting hearts as we travel through life on the emotional rollercoaster.
August 22: It’s Never Too Late - Erin Barrette Goodman
Erin grew up in a wonderful, loving and decidedly non-musical family, a drop-out of both flute and piano lessons. She has lived most of her life believing she couldn’t carry a tune and had no rhythm. Recently she began singing and dancing in public - and loving every minute. Words, songs and photographs will illustrate her story of entering the magical world of music-making as an adult.
The dance team Erin is part of, The Ladies of the Rolling Pin, fresh off their summer tour of England, will make a special appearance after the service. All-ages interactive dances will be included.
August 29: A Rousing Unitarian Universalist Celebration----General Assembly 2010 - Rev. Betty Kornitzer
In June, all the depth and richness of Unitarian Universalism was rolled out at our General Assembly. This year, a major theme was "Boldness" in our faith. We will gather to explore what we have to celebrate and what boldness might look like for us as UUs.
September 5: The Long Trek To Dignity, A Celebration of Our Labor Heritage - Rich Evans
At this Labor Day service, we'll honor the Unitarian Universalist values which underpin the true meaning of this holiday.
September 12: Our Annual Water Communion Sunday – Rev. Betty Kornitzer
In this intergenerational service, we celebrate our fall ingathering by sharing water from our diverse summer adventures.
All are invited to bring a bit of water and a few words, so that we may unite and form the stream of our community.
