At its June meeting, the UUCSC Board of
Directors formally authorized the creation of a
committee to apply for candidacy for accreditation
as a Green Sanctuary church. Green Sanctuary
accreditation is a Unitarian Universalist Association
program that identifies congregations that have
made a commitment to sustainable living practices.
More poetically, the Green Sanctuary Program,
originally called the Seventh Principle Project, “was
designed to give roots and wings to the vision that,
together, we can create a world in which all people
make reverence, gratitude, and care for the living
Earth that is central to our lives,” . . .
From the UUA 2009 General Assembly Program, Salt Lake City, Saturday June 27:
"Come hear lay and professional leaders from the UU Congregation of South County, RI describe how they have grown in depth and in numbers (93 to 128) in the past five years. UUCSC is one of four congregations selected as a 'Breakthrough Congregation' for 2009 by the UUAs Growth Team."
This designation honors congregations for having made great strides in growth, holding them up as an inspiration to others. As part of the honor, each of the "Breakthrough Congregations" was asked to make a 12 minute video and to give a workshop at the General Assembly.
